Arienda is a minor recurring character in the second season of Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders. She is the Queen of the elusive Faery Wraiths, a very magical race of faeries dwelling in Avalon in the Forests of Arden, and a friend of Prince Ian.
Appearances[]
Queen Arienda is introduced in the episode "Prince of the Forest", in which the evil witch Lady Kale cruelly imprisons her in a Dark Stone magic bubble on order to lure Arienda's mysterious beast-boy protector (Ian) into a hole trap set up by the Outlaws. Afterwards, the freed Arienda magically ensures that, once a year, Ian may again turn human to share a moment with his beloved Princess Gwenevere.
In the second to last episode "Lady of the Lake" ("Spirit of Avalon"), Arienda and the Faery Wraiths show up again when they arrive to help the Princess. They guide her and Sunstar to the hidden Heart of Avalon, where Gwen receives the Staff of Avalon to use it and the Wizard Jewels in the final fight against Kale (with Ian's help).
Soon later, in "The Last Dance" ("The One Jewel"), Arienda also helps Gwenevere break Morgana's curse and revive Ian with the power of love. This act also restores the Circle of the Wraiths that has been destroyed by Morgana and allows the Jewel Riders and Merlin to win the Jewel of the Northwoods (and eventually defeat Morgana).
Legacy[]
In Avalon: Web of Magic, Fairy Wraiths are kind creatures that are the guardians of the series' version of Avalon. They are of human size and have green hair there.
In the Fairy Realms world in Avalon, the term “fairy ring” comes from a superstition that mushrooms growing in a circle represent the path of dancing fairies. It has been used to describe a place where fairies come to sing and dance; the Fairy Ring is also an outdoor amphitheatre grown from trees and plants in the Fairy Kingdom, serving as a meeting place.
